It's not always the dog that needs a lesson in good manners. As etiquette and pet expert Charlotte Reed shows, well-mannered people and their well-mannered pets are more pleasant to be around, are treated better by everyone, and get invited to more places, including restaurants, parties, and vacation homes. In her complete guide to dog decorum, she discusses acceptable behavior for every occasion in a dog's life, including:
  • Behaving at home and on the street
  • Eating in or going out
  • Extending pet courtesy to others in places of business
  • Being mindful of others while traveling
  • Having fun at pet events
  • Treating veterinarians, pet sitters, and dog groomers with respect.
With Reed's tips, you'll become a model pet owner, a good neighbor, an excellent customer, an exceptional host, and a welcome guest at the homes of friends and family. Both practical and fun, with real-life stories and expert training tips, The Miss Fido Manners Complete Book of Dog Etiquette is the only book you and your dog need.

 "Too Much "Miss" Information" 2008-02-06
By Sue L. Janson (Wichita, KS)
While Charlotte Reed's book "The Miss Fido Manners Complete Book of Dog Etiquette" does share some good tips, this book has more wrong than right. It seems to me that this book is geared mainly for the East Coast elite, which is fine, but does not make it a book for the general dog owner population. For instance, I have to wonder how many dog owners get invited to Tea Parties with/for their dog. In Ms. Reed's section on walking the streets and dog parks, she suggests using a retractable leash or a 6 foot leash. Neither of these can be totally effective for maintaining control of your dog if he/she sees something to go after or gets into something he/she shouldn't. There is never any mention about using harnesses on the dog instead of collars, especially for walking. Many breeds, especially toy breeds should never be walked on a collar and a harness is much safer and more comfortable for any dog. It is true that Vet schools offer good vet care for animal clients at a somewhat reduced rate than most private vet practices, but generally speaking shelters do not offer any vet service other that spaying or neutering,as Ms. Reed states. I work with rescue groups all over the country, and have yet to find a shelter that offers a wide variety of medical services. Some ASPCA organizations do, however.

I do like the fact that Ms. Reed states in her book that there is never a good reason for dogs to be kept outside and away from the family. I would have liked to see her talk more about positive training, when dealing with behavior issues.

In short, I would not recommend this book.

"FURminator deShedding Tool works !" 2009-08-02
By D. A. Wimer (Carlisle, PA USA)
I purchased a FURminator deShedding Tool after reading many reviews. The cat actually loved the attention and being stroked by the tool. An unbelievable amount of hair was easily removed. Also, I found the FURejector to work well in that it only required one hand, allowing my other hand free to hold the cat.

Although, we didn't see as much benefit with our (short-haired) dog, I would recommend this product to anyone with a dog or cat.

This is the second product like this I have owned. The other one, Fur Buster, broke within 2 weeks of use. The Furminator is manufactured much better. The blade is stronger and much more durable. This tool is amazing. I have a yellow lab that sheds like crazy. We use this tool every other day on him. Keeps the house much cleaner.

 "Amazing Product!" 2009-07-09
By Susan A. Cook
A friend at work showed me the Furminator that she had recently purchased. Out of curiosity, I ordered one through Amazon (with the added feature of the ejector button). I am amazed! We have 6 dogs, two of which are long-haired LARGE dogs. You wouldn't believe how much hair comes off these dogs with just one swipe. They love having it done as well. I would recommend the model with the fur ejector button because it makes it so much easier to use. I plan to purchase a few more!

 "Good product" 2009-07-09
By Hummbird (SF Bay Area)
After years of resisting paying an outrageous amount for a Furminator, I finally relented and found the best price on Amazon, as usual. One cat of ours sheds so much year-round that I had to do something. I'm very happy with the Furminator and both cats seem to like it. It sure does remove the fur! I haven't noticed any "cutting" of the hair, just a sleeker coat with much less loose fur flying around. The ejector works fine in that you don't have to pull the fur out of the comb, not a huge deal if you wanted to pay a little less without it.

"amazing, I would (and do!) recommend to friends" 2009-08-18
By Lea R. Mcroberts (Des Moines, IA)
I have a dog & a cat and live in a one bedroom apt. . . yeah, there's a lot of hair everywhere. But when I'm done brushing either of my pets, it looks like there's enough hair in the trash bin to make another pet! This means much less pet hair on my furniture & clothes. I love, love, love this brush.

 ""Fur-minator" works great!" 2009-08-17
By K. Bocinski (Syracuse, NY)
This item was received quickly and brand new as advertised. It works great! We have a German Shepherd who sheds like CRAZY... It takes out tons of that fluffy undercoat and leaves her looking sleek and well-groomed. And, she loves it! You do have to be careful on the more tender areas such as the belly, and I would recommend doing this outdoors on a breezy day because you will get gobs and gobs of fur. Either that, or keep a large trash can handy. This tool has definitely reduced the amount of dog hair "tumbleweeds" in our home.

This is truely a great product. It was previewed by Liz on Chanel 4 so I naturally went to Amazon to purchase it. So much less expensive than one of the pet stores. I have a very long haired samoyd, with very thick coat. I have to take her every 5 weeks to be groomed. This Furminator works great and removes lots and lots of hair that normally is on my carpets. Angel doesn't seem to mind it at all. Thanks Amazon for making this much more afordable.
